What I’m listening to:
Leonard Cohen: You Want It Darker
Fuuuuuuuuuck. I don’t know about all of you, but I’m still in mourning. Honestly, I’ve been revisiting most of his catalogue, but it took his passing for me to pick up this one. Just as strong as anything he’s put out, this album reminds us we lost a true artist. The title track is my personal favorite and now, post-death, when Cohen breathes “I’m ready, my Lord”, it’s particularly haunting.
What I’m reading:
Alice Bag: Violence Girl
Is there anything we all need more right now than an awesome Chicana punk story about complete and utter defiance? It’s definitely working for me. This memoir is a bunch of mini-essays stitched together in true DIY fashion, and it follows Alice Bag’s whole life from tumultuous childhood to the first-wave, LA punk rock scene and then all the way to her experiences in Central America that solidified her feelings of pursuing teaching and activism. It’s got just the right amount of fight in it.
